The most amazing experience I've had for breakfast & lunch!
My one day off, I decide to go to prairie kitchen after like 10 years of not eating there. I found a fat piece of hair on my hand. I told the waitress and I figured I’d get a new plate but nope, she just asked if I wanted a new ham which was what the hair was on. I figured after finding dirty hair that probably hasn’t been washed in ages I’d get a new plate after the contamination, Didn’t even get a discount on my ticket for the hair.
We ate at Prairie Kitchen in February 2026. The parking lot was full, with one truck parked in the grass out front. Every table was occupied. I had chicken fried steak, maybe the best I have ever eaten. The “steak” was tender but not like ground beef found in some chicken fried steak. The waitress was kind and efficient checking on us making sure we were cared for. Later she brought a brownie in a hot skillet. It was covered with vanilla ice cream, whip cream and hot fudge. The food quality was very high. We were from out-of-town and noticed that the interaction between customers and wait staff was familiar.
For context, I had been coming here 3-4 times a month. I order the same thing every time. I have enjoyed the food and most of the service. Never a complaint. Until today. The food came out cold. I'm not one to send food back but this was not lukewarm but straight up cold. My server even mentioned she had another table say the same. The food comes back and all they did was heat up the same plate. How do I know this? There is a bite that I took out of the sausage and now the ham is more charred. I'm dismayed and the manager comes over. He was very non chalant. Never offered an apology and seemed annoyed with me that I was appalled they just warmed up cold food. I paid for the pancakes I ate (that were appropriately hot). Cold food is unacceptable. Heating up said already cold food, appalling. But the final straw was how the manager handled it. I won't be back.
Definitely recommend, our server was Jordan and she was awesome.
I’ve only been here twice so far because we just travel through town. Both times have been excellent. Four of us. Each getting something different and loved what we got. This is a classic diner with classic food and service.
Nice place with really friendly people. Great service and food came out quick. Food was pretty good and big portions
We tried the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and fried okra. The potatoes came out cold but our waiter quickly got us more. They seem very nice here. It has an old ma and paw type vibe which I love! I will say it does lack in flavor. The chicken fried steak isn't very seasoned so hot sauce it is! The food came out very quickly though so that's a plus.
